Carmen Gallo

carmen gallo interno poesia

Prima degli occhi, al posto degli occhi
le palpebre al muro
e la sfilata delle ciglia divelte
poi i capelli da incendiare all’alba
dei nostri migliori propositi
contarsi in segreto le dita
incollando i palmi
alle ragioni dei vivi
prima degli occhi, al posto degli occhi
dividere le mani
in vagoni da espatriare

  1. Si non parlo Italiano. Therefore I go to Google for a translation and therefore lose the poetry. But some I like. Please explain the phrase “Before the eyes, in place of eyes
the eyelids to the wall” (Prima degli occhi, al posto degli occhi
le palpebre al muro) In English before can mean ‘standing in front of the eyes’ or it can mean something happened and then the eyes came after.. I am sure you can help me because educated Italians seem to speak Spanish and French and English but educated Australians only speak English,

  2. Dear reader, I feel like your second meaning is closer to the original one. “Prima” there does not refer to something happening in front of one’s eyes. Rather it alludes to the possibility of an experience in which eyes are not involved; the experience of what you see and feel when your eyelids are closed or too close to a wall. Hope this helps a bit and thank you a lot for the attention you paid to these words. Carmen
